Windows Desktop

Core Productivity Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Alt+Tab, Task Switcher, tap and release to alternate between current and last window. This usage pattern comes up a lot.
  • Ctrl+Alt+Tab, open task switcher and leave it open
  • Win+Tab, open task view
  • Ctrl+Win+<left/right arrow>, move between virtual desktops
  • Win+S, Windows search
  • Ctrl+Shift+v, paste as plain text
  • Win+v, show clipboard history
  • Ctrl+Alt+Home, escape out of RDP window back to client machine
  • Ctrl+Shift+Esc, open Task Manager
  • Win+<num>, opens the app pinned to taskbar in position <num>

RDP Sessions

  • To press Ctrl+Alt+Del in the RDP session run on-screen keyboard (osk.exe) and hold Ctrl+Alt and click Delete
    • Alternatively, press Shift 5 times and only enable sticky keys on the RDP session and press Ctrl, Alt and then Delete
  • Ctrl+Alt+Home, escape from RDP window back to local machine. Good for escaping from remote machine to use keyboard shorts on local machine.
